Esophageal sphincter

The term esophageal sphincter refers to one of two sphincters that are part of the esophagus:

lower esophageal sphincter (also called cardiac sphincter or gastroesophageal sphincter) which leads into the cardia.
upper esophageal sphincter (also called pharyngoesophageal sphincter) within the hypopharynx
